Voices of Resilience A Documentary About 2020 in Washington, DC

Voices of Resilience is an ongoing documentary project exploring how neighbors, workers, and community leaders in Washington, DC experienced the upheaval of 2020—from the pandemic to protest and political unrest. Through intimate, on-camera stories, the film captures how ordinary people navigated an extraordinary year. Created by Backstory Media, the project builds on our long-standing commitment to preserving personal histories and community stories on film.

This project is funded in part by grants from the Capitol Hill Community Foundation, Humanities DC, and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts

Voices will create a comprehensive and uniquely local archive of the pandemic, protests for racial justice, the 2020 presidential election, and the storming of the US Capitol by focusing on DC residents, business owners, and workers from Anacostia, Capitol Hill, and the H Street Corridor. Their unique perspectives and experiences will contribute to our efforts to reflect the essence of a transformative year. This reel is a sample of the nearly fifty interviews we filmed in 2020.
